Body Scape

This was another school assignment that was created to help us in lighting a persons form. I had a very different vision of what I was hoping to achieve before I went into my shoot, but ended up with something quite unexpected. Although I wasn't expecting the results that I have I am pleased that I was able to try this assignment and come out with a few images that I am fond of.

High Speed Strobe with Model

For a first High Speed Strobe photo shoot idea i thought that it would be interesting to capture the motion of hairspray in the air. I thought to make the scene a little more interesting I would add in a model as a "prop" for the shoot. My beautiful friend Sonya stepped in and got all dressed up in a pink wig and blue lipstick, i was going for a very contrasty portrait. Here are a few examples from the shoot.

Food Photography

This was my third attempt at shooting food photography, the first two were less than successful. I chose a very difficult subject to begin with, steak on the BBQ. I struggled with lighting for this image and ended up with a mediocre final result. I then chose to shoot a pice of cake, which seemed easier than working with flames, until it melted before my eyes under the studio lights. In the end I changed my idea entirely and shot jello in a glass bowl. I was much more satisfied with the final results where i was able to capture an abstract but detailed shot of green jello.

Empress of Drag Hits Local Vancouver Stage

Raye Sunshine, Empress of Vancouver Drag Queen’s was found center stage at Celebrities Night Club on November 10, 2010, where she delivered an outrageous performance to the billboard top 20 hit song Can’t Be Tamed. The crowed erupted with excitement for the Empress as she closed the much-anticipated show “Dollhouse” featuring the beloved Jujubee. Prior to show time Raye openly filmed an interview discussing what life is like as Empress of Vancouver Drag and gave myself insight to general life as a Queen. She heart fully expressed herself and fellow queens to be “the movers and the shapers of the community” but although Raye is seen by many as a role model, she doesn't consider herself exactly that, “..its strange, I don’t see myself that way…I don’t change who I am, I’m the same person in drag and out of drag”. Raye proving true to her word, let her personality shine through on stage as she preformed with spunk and charisma leaving the crowed cheering for more. She gracefully left stage after speaking a few works of thanks to her fellow queens and fans. And even though her one year span of Empress reign is coming to an end she is thankful for the experience, but excited to re-leave the title, as she hopes for a good friend of hers to be crowned Empress next.
